Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday highlighted the remarkable participation of voters in West Bengal during the ongoing assembly elections, noting they are casting their ballots in a “fearless atmosphere” that has not been seen in over six decades. This important shift demonstrates a robust engagement from the electorate.
As of now, voters are exercising their franchise in 142 constituencies across the state in the second and final phase of polling. Modi stated that the results on May 4 will drive India towards greater development.
Speaking after inaugurating the Ganga Expressway, Modi described this day as significant in the festival of democracy. He remarked, “Reports indicate a massive turnout as citizens enthusiastically step out to vote, akin to the high engagement witnessed in the first phase. Social media is abuzz with images of long queues at polling stations, showcasing the public’s eagerness to participate in the democratic process.”
Modi emphasized his sentiments about the ongoing voting. He stated, “What we are witnessing in Bengal today is unprecedented, allowing voters to exercise their rights without fear, a reality hard to imagine in the past six to seven decades.”
The Prime Minister further highlighted that this active participation signifies a powerful affirmation of the nation’s Constitution and a pivotal moment of strength for democracy in India. He expressed his gratitude towards the citizens of Bengal, saying, “I appreciate the great people of Bengal for being so conscious of their rights and mobilizing in huge numbers to vote.”
