The encounter began during a joint search operation by the Army and J&K Police under ‘Operation Trashi-I’. Terrorists, believed to be 2–3 foreign militants linked to Jaish-e-Mohammad, opened fire and hurled grenades. Security forces retaliated, and reinforcements from the Army, CRPF, and police were deployed. Most injured soldiers suffered splinter injuries and were shifted to hospital. The operation is ongoing with drones and sniffer dogs being used to track the terrorists. Security has been intensified ahead of Republic Day.
