‘I hope I never sacrifice dignity for power’: Aga Ruhullah takes dig at CM Omar

National Conference MP Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi on Tuesday took a pointed dig at Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, making strong remarks over what he described as compromising personal dignity for the sake of retaining power.

Addressing Omar Abdullah, Ruhullah remarked that the Chief Minister did not need to place his cap and dignity at the feet of others to hold on to his position.

Expressing his personal stance, Ruhullah said he prayed to Almighty Allah that he should never become so dependent on power that he would have to sacrifice his self-respect merely to retain a chair.

“I pray to God that I never become so dependent on power that I have to throw away my cap to hold on to it,” Ruhullah said.

His remarks carry a pointed political message amid discussions over differences within the National Conference and questions surrounding the party’s leadership and functioning.

The statement has brought renewed attention to the political differences between the two leaders, with Ruhullah’s remarks reflecting his position on the importance of maintaining dignity and self-respect in public life.(KNC)
