Jammu, October 10, 2026: On the occasion of World Palliative Care Day, Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu conducted a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme titled “Pain Management – An Essential Part of Palliative Care.” This initiative attracted around 130 delegates, including medical consultants, postgraduate residents, and key healthcare professionals from across district hospitals and private institutions. The CME aimed to spotlight the critical role of pain management in improving life quality for patients battling cancer and other serious illnesses.

This event served as an essential platform for interdisciplinary collaboration and knowledge sharing, significantly focusing on palliative care and cancer pain management. Dr. Ashutosh Gupta, Principal and Dean of GMC Jammu, guided the event, which marked the inauguration of a dedicated palliative care file. This initiative aims to enhance the delivery of palliative care services and establish a more systematic approach for patients facing life-threatening conditions.

The organisation team included notable names such as Dr. Rajesh Mahajan, the Organising Chairperson; Dr. Madan Katoch, Co-Chairperson; Dr. Naine Bhadrala, Organising Secretary; along with several other medical professionals who contributed their expertise to the programme.

During the workshop, participants engaged in expert lectures and dynamic panel discussions on various pivotal topics including pain assessment techniques, cancer pain management strategies, responsible opioid administration, and holistic approaches to palliative care. The discussions underscored the significance of compassionate communication and the necessity for a multidisciplinary approach in addressing physical, emotional, social, and spiritual distress.

Anchors Dr. Jasmine Chaudhary and Dr. Heena Saini facilitated the event, ensuring each scientific session flowed seamlessly. Additionally, a creative poster competition held during the CME presented an opportunity for students and residents to delve deeper into the theme, “The Last Chapter Can Still Be Beautiful,” which emphasized the vital aspects of dignity, compassion, and quality of life in the final stages of life.

The CME concluded with a strong commitment from the participants to integrate palliative care practices into regular healthcare routines. This will help assure timely pain relief and compassionate support for patients grappling with serious health issues.
